I recently had a turn key engine, gearbox and head rebuilt and installed by Paul Inch Engineering in Plymouth.

Whilst it’s all sorted now (except for the missing bits), all down to other more reputable companies which I’ve paid to sort for me, It was a painful and disappointing experience.

I drove my 850 mini in and drove out with the newly built 1098 (which i supplied).

Im not suggesting the engine is badly built, although I wasn’t given a build sheet or engine detail afterwards, so I’m not too sure what I’ve got, which is annoying. Also there is still a lingering question as to whether the missing pulley damper should be fitted on a 1098 or not.

The engine set up was awful, absolutely miles out and the run in advice was awful too. These two factors alone resulting in bore wash and very nearly a knackered engine.

Unanswered phone calls, ignored voicemail messages, texts and emails didn’t help either.

He wasn’t expensive or cheap either but came with a good reputation.

Sadly some of my original engine stuff was lost. He wasn’t able to wire positive earth properly so threw away my original coil too. The new dizzy has since been wired correctly by Slarks (highly recommended by the way!).

I’ve given Inch a couple of weeks now to respond and contact me before openly ‘reviewing’ his services and I’ve heard nothing.

As I’m based in Devon I try and use local companies but this was a dissapointing experience to say the least.

My next engine build coming up in the winter will be going to Slarks Engineering where they value their customers and treat people with a little more respect.

Do yourself a favour and give Mr Inch a miss - unfortunately despite his good reputation, he really doesn’t deserve your hard earned money.
