Hi everyone,    I've just finished renewing all parts of my rear brakes   (aside from re-using the old drums).

I'd just like some confirmation that I've got all the fixings in the right order,   as I can't find anywhere that shows explicitly where everything goes,  and Minispares and Somerford both show different quantities of everything  (both of which are different to what was fitted to my car before!)

The way I've fitted each rear brake line is as follows:

[3 way splitter block]

kunifer pipe with male and female ends

    full nut

    shakeproof washer

[bracket on subframe]

    flexible hose

[bracket on radius arm]

    shakeproof washer

    half nut

kunifer pipe with male and female ends

[backplate]

i.e. having done both wheels I've used 2 half nuts, 2 full nuts and 4 shakeproof washers.

The old parts that I dismantled used 2 half nuts, 2 full nuts and 6 shakeproof washers  (two shakeproof washers on each subframe bracket and just one on each radius arm bracket).

The Minispares diagram says the whole rear system needs 4 half nuts,  4 full nuts and 4 shakeproof washers.

The Somerford Minis diagram says the whole rear system needs 4 half nuts and 6 shakeproof washers.

Neither diagram is explicit about exactly which fixings go where.

I'd be inclined to put everything back in the same order that I found it,   as everything appears to be the original factory installation,   but as we're talking about a safety critical system I thought it's best to ask some advice before taking the car back on the road.

Out of curiosity,   why should one end of the flexi need a half nut and the other end need a full nut?

Also, on the parts that I dismantled,  why would the subframe bracket be fitted with shakeproofs either side,  but the radius arm bracket only used one on one side?

I've used all new shakeproof washers - if I ever have to dismantle part of the system again,  do I take it that new shakeproofs have to be fitted every time the joints are disturbed?

The most important thing is not whether you use half nuts or full nuts for locking nuts on the flexi pipe but that the brake pipe female end union nut doesn't bottom out on the locking nuts.

The shakeproof washers should be reusable, although some will say they should be replaced every time its not something I have done and have never had any issues.

On the mini flex hoses it's construction is such that only one lock nut and washer is required per end

If you use full nuts, you'll find that the proper Female Tube Nut will bottom out on the nut or come uncomfortably close.

1/2 Nuts were what was fitted from the factory.
