998 Engine Build - Can't Turn It 360

Best Answer Rorf , 05 July 2018 - 05:48 AM

Could be crankshaft hitting the central oil pipe in the gearbox, but definitely the crank webs hitting something in the gearbox. If pistons were hitting valves the crank would not turn 359 degrees either direction.

Far right one (in the pictures with my finger one it) was the one that seemed to catch. Had a tiny amount of metal filings on it.

Far as I can tell, its catching on the bolt for the conrod. Like ... could brute force it past, but would ruin the pickup levels of catching.

So do I heat and beat on the pipe, or is there a different shaped pickup I can get?

Just hit that area with a hammer to flatten the pipe a bit.

Who ever made that  "Central pick-up pipe", made it wrong.

I got one for the "heatin and a beatin" solution.

Can I get a second?

Ah yes, you give it the finger, I saw it, thanks :proud:

Nothing there really poked me in the eye other than it appeared there's a mix of big end fasteners, but nothing to do with this issue.

Some of the centre pick up's I've been supplied can rest on the bottom of the gearbox and not let the pipe sit as it should, sitting up a little, and this maybe the issue. I don't know that you'd be able to sensibly 'ding' the pipe, have enough cross section left in it and still get sensible clearance to the big end.

It sits up, and its a guessworks built box, so I think just a slightly iffy pipe is the problem. So now I'm going to ... adjust it with my fine adjusting tool. Just a smidge. Enough to get a bit of card though.

Or just bend it a bit.

Edit

Sorted. Bit of hammer, bit of bending, bit of "huh, why is there a 1/4 bolt in a 5/16 hole ... ) and it seems sorted. Happy days ... now I need to buy a new gasket.
