I'm looking for advice regarding what best to do with my offisde doorstep.
I have removed the outer sill on the offside for replacement.
The door step is in perfect condition apart from the sill/door step flange which has been recreated, following an accident that appears to have obliterated most of it, by welding an 'L' shaped piece of metal along its entire length.
The only other problem is the diagonal join between the rear quarter panel and the door step which has been repaired with weld and a patch welded adjacent to it.
I plan on removing the lower part of the rear quarter panel which also has a repair patch on it. (There is rust behind it so will also need a wheel arch closure panel)
My question is what do you experts is the best course of action regarding the door step.?
Replace the entire length of the door step. I'm happy to get the heritage door step and just use the lower bit and part of the 'B' pillar. That would be 2 cuts to weld and the doorstep to inner sill to spot weld. I have access to a spot welder. I'm a bit concerned that the A panel would impede acess at that end.
Alternatively, repair the diagonal join with a bit more care, remove the previous 'L' shaped strip and cut and add my own, hopefully to a better standard. But that is a seam weld along the entire length of the door step. This option would involve less effect on the structure of the car though.
Can anyone suggest anything else?
