Riley Elf MK III

Fan Belt

Hi all....

I just replaced the fan belt. On old belt, the adjuster arm under alternator was at half way. With new belts which didn't look only slightly bigger I have the adjuster as open as it can go. belt is a bit loser every now and then making a grinding sound under acceleration. Safe to say seeing I have no adjustment left I've been given the wrong Belt? (Went back to parts place and they are trying to give me the same one again!) Please excuse my terrible English :)

With the 13mm movement, is this pushing down on belt or pulling it up?

If I recall correctly there are three different sizes of belts used on Minis - ignoring the twin point ones. They are 813, 825 or 838mm long. Check the part number of the one you have, it should end with one of those numbers. Then go back to the parts store and get the next size down.
