Hi all I’m new to the group and to minis really. I’m lucky enough to be working on a few that have been stored In a barn since the 90s.
The one I’m working on currently is an early van that has positive earth.
The problem is the starter solenoid is missing and I cant see on first glance where it would sit.
3 wires all seem to meet in the same place but it seems a weird place to be.
One wire comes off the battery negative and goes through the floor, the next is off the starter motor and the 3rd is smaller and seems to appear from in the middle under the car. They all meet under the car just below where the pedals are.
The thing is it doesn’t look like there is any way for the switch to sit is it normal for them to be under the car as all the others it is in the engine bay.
I’m hoping to get it started tomorrow night, I can make the starter turn anyway but would rather be able to use the key when I’m finished with it so I can just hop in and start it.
Could anyone shed some light if they know please
Many thanks

I'm pretty sure the model you are describing didn't have a Starter Solenoid, but a Starter Button.

This:-

but there's the button and a few other bits to go with it.

Thank you that would make sense as the key only has 2 positions. There is a button on the floor to the left of the pedal but I thought that was something to do with the lights, it has 3 wires but they are small ones and seem to go to the dash. Thanks for the link

Hi,

The switch on the floor by the pedal would be the main beam switch.

The starter button goes on the tunnel by the gear stick.

Cheers  :proud:
