Hi guys,

I've got a 93 Cooper that is giving me a little bit of a headache.

The issue I'm having is that the dipped beam is not currently working, I have however side lights and full beam.

So far I have swapped the switch (near the heater pull - I also stripped and cleaned the old one but it didn't work), swapped the stalk for a brand new one, swapped the pink relay under the dash (I can feel it clicking) but still I am not getting dipped beam.

I've removed and cleaned the bullet connectors behind the grille and also removed the fuse box and cleaned that up but it's not resolved the issue. All the fuses (the 4 glass ones and several inline ones) have been checked and tested.

I assume the earth for the dipped beam would be ok as I am having both side and full.

Is there something simple I am missing? The bulbs have also been tested and are working - currently I have brand new bulbs plugged into the connector to isolate the headlamps.

I have run out of time but I'll check for power along the blue/red wire tomorrow. If there's no power where should I be looking? (Apart from a gallon of fuel and a match)

I also swapped the yellow relay next to the inertia switch as I noticed it also had the same coloured wires going into it. This however, didn't resolve my issue.

I did hear of fuses on the inside of the bulkhead, would I be able to get to them without removing the cluster or is it dash out?

Does it have a dim dip resistor mounted on the nearside inner wing

I got to mine by looking up under the dashboard next to the steering columm and could just get to them.

I'm unsure, if that the resistor on the passengers inner wing (has a plug on it)?

I'll have a butcher's tomorrow. Hoping it's something simple.

Yes you can get to them with the dash in place, the wire colours are blue red and blue white (2 of each)

Yes you can just unplug the resistor, or bypass the resistor system entirely at the pink relay

Perfect. I be finishing soon so I'll get my head under it and have a look.

The relay was new and clicking so I can't see why that would be bad but I'll bypass it to eliminate it.

Would that therefore mean the headlights would then be running without a relay? Thus putting more load on the wires/switch?

To much disappointment.

I've bypassed the relay with a length of wire. I've also disconnected the resistor just incase.

Still no dipped beam...

Under the dash I've followed the wiring from the relay to the loom but I cannot seem to see any inline fuses. There is only a green (wire) one present as far as I can see and that's fine too.

Wiring going from the loom via the multiplug to the stalk.

With both ignition off and lights off.. I've got the following.

Green/white - nothing
Blue - nothing
Blue/white - nothing
Purple - live
Green/red - nothing
Purple/black - nothing
Green/orange - nothing
Blue/orange - nothing

Now when i turn the lights on with ignition...

Blue now goes live
Purple Is still live...

Replacement stalk at fault? When I click the stalk back high beams don't come on however when I pull it towards the steering wheel I get high beam

The live on the blue wire is dependant on whether the light switch is on dipped beam or side lights. The ignition has no affect on it
