Hello,

Many years ago I was young and stupid and I cut part of the rear loom to make it easier to remove. Now I'm at the point where I'm supposed to reconnect everything. What's the best way to reconnect the wires? Do I really need to solder them or could I just use some twist-on connectors?

 

We're only talking about the rear taillights wire here.

Personally I'd strip, solder and electrical tape them but if you're happy with connectors then I'm sure that'll work fine too, just make sure that any moisture won't be able to get to them

You could use twist connector, you could use scotchlocks or many other methods but if you want to do it correctly and save yourself any future problems you will solder them and put some heat shrink on and then re-wrap the loom. That way you have done a professional job and will not risk loose connections, short circuits or heaven forbid a fire.

I'm an advocate of Soldering and Adhesive lined heatshrink.

Just strip the wire, push together, then push the sleeve over and heat up with a heat gun.

I used them to repair my loom at the front after I set fire to it when welding ?

Since you cut them for a purpose how about a multi connector to still allow separating it there?

Hi,

Heat shrink butt connector, you crimp them on giving mechanical strength and then heat them and they shrink and the glue inside melts. Brilliant 

Red ones are the ones for that job.

Somewhere on a Mini, but I can't recall where, they use a 5 pin rubber block with bullet connectors.

im another for solder and clear heatshrink. If not. Maybe wago connectors or chocbloc? Maybe even one of those chocbloc boxes you seal with a jelly potting compound.

I'd possibly consider fitting bullet connectors to it. They look neat (and factory), are fairly reliable and if you need to get the harness out again at some point, it seems a break her made it easy before, so will do again.

Thanks for all the answers! As I fear that I will someday get the loom out again, I'm going for male/female connectors covered by heatshrink
