"Anyone care to guess which came out fastest ?" - No surprise if it was the lil old A Series.

 

Fair point about where the weight is, though 30kg will be less than a 20th and an alloy block with no gearbox under it is likely to have a lower centre of gravity.

 

50:50 is only balance when your acceleration, braking and bumps  under the wheels aren't a thing.

It was the A series Mini, proving big power is only good for a straight line.

 

Adding 30 kg to the very front and taking it from the rear makes a Mini a very different animal, its like running the rear wheels dead parallel or toe out, opposite lock may be required, and if you are inexperienced it will catch you out.

Cars are dynamic by nature, forces move, increase and decrease. It's all part of what you say about power not being everything. It doesn't follow you can't use more power, just that applying it to the tarmac is more complex than just making it.
