Hello,

Right now i'm in Portugal and i will return to uk in the next few months.

I want to go with my mini, can someone tell me how it cost to register my mini? It's a 1980 classic mini with 998cc engine.

I need to pay some vat and duty? if yes anyone know how many?

Thank you

as no-one else answered , I did a little poke on google -

https://www.gov.uk/i...les-into-the-uk

Vat & Duty depend on their estimate of value - despite what it says

I do know they can strip a car for drug inspection - as I had the pleasure of rebuilding a mini that came from Belgium

they even cut the sills open & cross member , so something to watch out for - but we imported loads of mini's in the 80's so probably looked suspicious

& I expect inspection methods have improved now

best of luck

what ever you do - don't pi$$ them off

as you are in the EU it is quite simple.

insure it on the VIN MOT it on the VIN send off all your paperwork (presuming it is already in your name) with the Fee and the required VED. VOSA/DVLA may want to inspect the car.

Surely they are liable for damage done to a car if such a thorough inspection comes up empty?

Seriously? HMRC are a law unto themselves! Wouldn't be surprised if they charged you for destroying your car too!

I think my old boss got a bit shirty with them

they may well have been liable - but we had to put it back together - pretty sure he got nothing for his troubles

C & E have a lot of powers , but I have total respect for anyone stopping hard drugs getting into the country
