So I fitted my engine, complete with supercharger over the weekend.
Bonnet won’t close, fouls on the carb.
Anyone had an issue like this?
I’m thinking of changing my bonnet to this

Anybody got one, seen one in person???
Any other thoughts and opinions are more then welcome.
Cheers
Chris

My opinion ... that bulge does not suit the Clubman shape bonnet at all.

Can you not just raise the rear of the Clubman bonnet to gain enough clearance? Would look far better than the bulge IMO.

I find the raised rear just makes the bonnet look like it doesn’t fit haha..... It might grow on me though, I’d need to look up some more pictures. Is that your clubby?

How bad is the foul between carb and underside of the bonnet? Would removing the strengthening web on the underside of the bonnet give you enough clearance? If yes, you could always weld some sort of extra stiffening in to give the bonnet a bit more strength, once the web is removed.

Strengthening web runs from the rear corner at the centre of the front, not an issue there.

You can see in this picture where the carb is in relation to the front scuttle panel, and the bonnet hits on the carb wingnut, leaving a good size gap at the front of the bonnet. ( about half an inch gap )

Yes my Clubman.

Would an ERA style vent suit. I used to have one and it fitted the clubman bonnet fine, not sure if it would be in the right location for your carb nut though.

I love ya clubman, checked out your build page, very thorough.
Well yes I did look at these, I think it might be worth a measure up, I was just unsure if the bonnet ridge would suit, but you confirm its a go.
I'll look into it.

Did think of this, but when I saw the gap at the front of the bonnet I realised that would be pointless.
If I get a chance I'll throw the bonnet on and grab some pictures up through the grill.

why? as it is so close to the hinges a small change there will make a big change at the front.

Is this the vmaxscart kit ? If so it states on there webpage no bonnet or bulkhead modifications are needed.

So in my eyes something is not righ some where.

Yes it’s the vmaxscart kit.
I was under that understanding also. I’m wondering if it’s the fact that the 1275 engine is slightly taller, add to that the decompression plate thickness.....lots to consider
