Hi ladies and gents

I am currently on a bit of a roadtrip from Denmark to France and Switzerland. The first week everything has been going well, and I have really been enjoying the drive and the scenery.

Until today.. 3 hour motorway drive in France followed by 15 minutes steep mountain drive in Switzerland which made the car start to boil. Leaked a bit of water too. After 9 years of ownership it is the first time the car has been boiling. The fan kicks when its warm, so I don't think that is the issue. Should be said it is about 30 degrees hot outside.

Question is whether something is wrong or whether the hot weather combined with a long drive and a long mountain drive simply is too much for the cooling system to handle.

Cheers in advance from a slightly worried MPI owner in a Swiss cabin.  :shades:

Could be a failed expansion tank cap. Not uncommon after nine years, it if has not been replaced.

Thanks for replying. I changed that two years ago, but I suppose it could be failing again  :geek:

Hi,

Probably a cooling system flush and some fresh coolant will see you back to normal.

Cheers :proud:

I was wondering if the R53 cap was the same pressure relief. It looks identical and seems to fit.
