Hi All,

I've recently purchased some brake shoes for a sprite and they are very similar if not identical to a mini and the rear cylinders work in the same way.

The old shoes that I have removed and all the mini and other car shoes have the pad material set closer to one end of the shoe than the other, these units have arrived and are symmetrical, I've contacted the supplier who acknowledged this was wrong and sent me another set but they are the same.

I haven't driven the car yet but can anyone advise why shoes are normally like this and whether this will be a problem?

I've attached a picture with the two yellow arrows showing how it should be, mine has an equal gap at each side.

Where the arrow is pointing is called the "leading edge" of the shoe and the drum should rotate towards the leading edge when the car is in forward motion. :D

Sprite Shoes are the same (even by P/N) as Mini Ones.

As Rolf has said, they do have a leading and trailing edge and as can be seen here;-

I've been supplied loads of those. They are not right, just cheap junk.

Possible savings with time to apply the braking material to the whole shoe instead of alternating

Thanks guys, its an Austin Healey Sprite but I thought the shoes were the same as a mini, thanks for confirming.

As the supplier has sent two sets the same and reckons they are ok and they sold hundreds of sets last year with no complaints what do people think? To be honest i'm only putting the car on the road to drive to the Spridget 60th anniversary event which is a 30 mile round trip, then it will go back in the garage for another 4 years (or more).

I have only changed them as one was down to metal.
