May not be a rocker or tappet, could be the timing chain or the fan snicking something...

 

Try listening through a long screwdriver to your ear

 

Can you post a video? (...not of you with a screwdriver) LOL

Try setting the valve clearances at 0.012" cold.
There is no reason why the clearance needs to be more with a higher ratio rocker shaft as the ex. valve expansion is no different. I set the 1.5 rockers on my S to 0.012" with my 286 cam and it has always been fine.

Remember when setting the gap on roller rockers that you come in with feeler gauge from the side and don't push it straight in the direction of the roller. This is because the roller can squash the feeler a bit when you roll it between the roller and the valve.

yes i know about going in from the side with roller tips - interestingly, what cooperman said, a mate of mine just came over this morning on the way to work , he used to build miglia engines - he just said the same thing, set the valve clearances at 12 thou cold regardless of what swiftune said at 15 thou.

will this blow me car up if i do this?
