Heater Control - Simple Question

A friend of mine in Switzerland has a partially restored proper Mini and asks the following question:

 

In order to turn on the heater is the control pulled out or pushed in?

Pushed in to open the valve and that allows hot water to flow into the heater matrix.

I've owned in for hot and in for cold versions.
