First off, Hello! Thank you all for being here and sharing information! Love minis and cant wait to buy more MUAHAHA!

So story, Recently bought.  PO was converting to center dash.  the original dash is in the back seat. Car runs and drives great. Idle is kinda high..

But important for me as I live in Texas (100F+) is to have ac functioning.

All the parts seem to be there until i started looking at the ac connectors.

In the pics you can tell they dont just plug together..

Am i missing something?

What do the ac controls plug in to?

Is there an adapter, ECU or relay?

Can i just splice wires color to color?

Hi,

Bit of a guess here, you have plugs for; blower fan, relay, resistor for blower fan, thermostat.

Have you got the blower fan, most of it may be mounted on that, certainly the resistor will be.

Cheers,

Gavin :proud:

Are you saying that's what you see that I have or that's what I should have?

Look at the late Japanese SPI A/C wiring diagram. Most of the wire colo(u)rs should be the same, some relays will be different but at least you will get an idea what connects to what. See page 24 of the PDF.

Additionally, The MPI Electrical Library describes the operation of the A/C beginning in page 46 of the PDF

Good luck! I have not taken my 1994 Japanese Cooper apart yet, so I can not be of any more help.

Hi,

That looks like the blower motor under the dash, so one plug for the motor. The resistor is usually fitted so the air from the fan blows over it so that should be fitted on that unit somewhere too. Don't know where the thermostat unit is but there should be a sensor in the evaporator for it.

Sorry if this seems spamy.   This is what im thinking at the moment.

Pretty sure i neeed that thermostat.

Dont know where my control switch plugs into?

JTB100260?(I have this one)

JTB100250?

JTB100240?

Cant find Thermoresister yet

Maybe the resister is the plug at the bottom of the blower?

https://buppu.com/item/808

or Resister at the top? but this in a 4 pole and i dont have a plug thatd fit that..

Super appreciate the input. I'll be tinkering this weekend and will hopefully have a better understanding about where everything goes.

Hi,

The 6way plug you have has all the blue wires going to it, so that's what I would say goes to the resistor, do you have a socket in the fan housing or a hole where a resistor could go in the airflow? Not all resistors go in the airflow but most do. There may be an earlier version or your car may have an aftermarket kit fitted.

Have you got any part numbers on the bits you've got?

Cheers  O_O

Ok. After digging and studying what I have some more. I think I have everything. I just need to make jumpers from the controls to the connectors I have available. They match color to color so I'll try that and see if anything blows up.

Sounds like a plan. Let us know if anything survived

So! Got the blower working! Switch turned it on and off.
Compressor did not engage. Yet.
Havnt check refrigerant pressure yet.
I had a G/W left over from the switch that I plugged into a blue and white left over from the car.
Also had a blue leftover from the car which I believe after looking at the diagram that it would engage the compressor clutch if it had a 1e3 resistor. 1kilo ohm I believe.

Bonus, 1: what are the two wires coming through the passenger floor? (R/w and grey)
2: dash lights no longer work unless I jump purple to red. Used to work. Fuses are good unless I'm missing one..
3: I have 2 purple wires(+12V) and a red wire(ground for dash lights?)
Where are they supposed to go? (Sounds like the red became in plugged from the dash cluster)

Oil pressure gauge I installed works!
Do I need to wire the oil pressure light if I have the gauge?

Hi,

The red/white wire is what pulls the clutch in. It should be controlled by the engine ECU...

The green/white should also go to the engine ECU...

If you've not got anywhere for them to go you could connect them together, but there's a reason they go to the ECU.

The grey and the grey/red wires go to the thermistor otherwise known as the temperature sensor for the thermostat.

The resistor should be built into the relay pack.

Cheers  :proud:

The red/white wire on the switch is just for the LED. I wired it to a spare blue wire and it lights up when i turn the AC on, but the clutch isnt engaging.

Next Issue, I cant get my dash lights or my running brake lights to come on. They used to. Thinking C6 fuse? but all the fuses ive checked are fine.

Ideas where to look please?

What do the purple wires need to go to. I have 2 with +12V and a Red wire under the dash that dont seem to have anywhere to go.   Purple to red illuminates the dash tho. maybe i need to just install a switch.
