Hi everyone.
Need some advice/tips and a wee bit more confidence. I have done this once but not at tbc . I had to take the dizzy and the connecting shaft to the oil pump? Out and struggling to get it back in. I can get it to within 5cm then it just seems to not want to go any further. 1275 a+ engine.
Secondly will i ever lose the shaft inside the engine if i have a clumsy monent?

Thanks in advance

sounds like you are hitting the crank. you just have to allow it to move past. just make sure the stud you have in the end dont unscrew and you will be ok.

There is a threaded hole in the centre of the drive spindle that takes a 5/16unf bolt. Usually a long bolt from the left hand engine mounting bracket or even the lower radiator mounting bracket bolt makes it very easy to install the spindle in the correct orientation.

It may not be engaging the cam drive, rock the flywheel back and forth to engage the drive

It has a injection shaft so im unable to put a threaded bolt on the end. Someone previously had converted it from injection to carb

All the spindles have the female thread, the SPi one is no different to the carb one?

same thread in both. you can use the same whatever you have to hand to install it. generally the longer the better.

I have this picture on my phone just to remind me when refitting or adjusting the spindle.

I also have a photo of the Haynes page describing how to find tdc for static timing as well.

Just remember that some of the later electronic dizzys required the drive to be fitted at a different angle as the dog drive was offset differently.

Just seeking clarification. As long as the dizzy rotor and cable to no 1 position at TDC are aligned then all is well. Mine points to around 4 o’clock rather than 1.
