A 1968 1275GT? Can you see BMC/BL using a pre production model in motorsport a year or more before it is launched? Tony Pond a celebrity driver in 1968? Mike Smith - the ex Radio 1 DJ? I think someone has their dates or story muxed ip.

I had a '69 1275gt, that isn't a '69, detail changes look more like a 71/72 as Indicated by the registration number.

It may be though that different bits were fitted by the factory as things developed and/or when they sold it off to get it running as a complete car.

Back then people weren't interested in whether it had the correct grille or washer jets for the year, it was just a fairly modern car.

I have a MK2 Jag which was the first 3.8 built and was used for engine development, it has a few different bits most notably the engine air cleaner is the wrong type but its mentioned in the development records that it was changed for the latest design (went from oil bath to paper filter element).

The ad mentioned they have a lot of paperwork, I guess any new owner will review all of this to make sure its the real mccoy although 40K for a not overly special mini seems a crazy amount although some frogeye sprites are selling for 20K so it seems that the world may have gone mad!

Yes Tony Pond didn't start his WRC career till the mid 70's, I don't think it can be ex-Radio 1 DJ Mike Smith though.

He wasn't old enough to drive till 1972!!!!!  His racing career was mostly touring cars, driving Fords.
