So I'm starting to gather the parts for a turbo build. Unfortunately I don't know how to weld and I'd imagine that buying welding equipment would be more expensive than just buying a manifold.

The only turbo manifold I've come across is the fusion fabs one which looks great but for £400 it seems to be a lot of money.

Firstly is it actually a lot of money or would fabricated parts like this usually be this much?

Secondly, does anyone know anyone who does a cheaper turbo manifold?

Thirdly, is it worth the money learning to weld and buying the equipment or is it better leaving it to a pro?

Cheers!

Will

Hi,

There used to be a company called mirsge who made manifolds for the T2, don't know if they're still going?

Pop over to the turbo minis forum and ask there...

Cheers  :proud:

Mirage no longer exist. The FF manifolds are the only ones currently available as far as I know. As you own a Mini I'd suggest learning to weld ASAP, lol

Phil.

I don't want to talk out of term my friend but building a good turbo motor that's someway reliable isn't a cheap conversion by any means, especially when you start turning the boost up because how addictive it is.
£400 might sound a lot but the quality is fantastic from ff and it's just one of the many parts that you will need. There had an endless amount of advice over at 'turbo minis'.
Turbo motors are a real buz to drive in a mini but building it with the right parts will help in how long it will last.
Good luck and keep us all up to date with it.?

Cheers everyone! I'll pop over to turbo minis andstart saving up for the FF kit.

Does anyone have any welding brands/types of welders that they'd recommend?

Hi,

Machine mart mig welders seem popular around these parts.

I use a portamig as they're absolutely fantastic but rather expensive!

Cheers  :proud:

You can use the metro turbo manifold and turbo. But they are old now and there are better turbos. And you would need a bulkhead box which would need welded

having made my own manifolds before I would say the pricing for the fusion stuff is pretty good,

once sorted the flanges  and youve bought a few bends and chopped them all up faffed around bought some more bends caus youve cut them wrong, welded them together, then cut them apart again caus it dosnt quite fit right your not going to be a  million miles away from having paid them the money and getting somthing nice and shiny turn up that fits.

Think of it this way. You cough up for the £400 FF manifold, or you cough up for a metro manifold (£50-100), a turbo box (£30), and a welder (decent one is £300 new). So in reality the FF kit isnt that expensive...

Im going down the metro manifold route. I have a welder (best £300 I ever spent when owning a classic) and I bought a complete metro turbo with rebuilt short block and turbo so for me it made sense to go down that route.
