Hey,

I done a search for scissor lift etc on the forum and cant really find the answer im looking. What im wondering is will a mini actually fit on one? Im looking at the AutomoTech one (https://www.automote...e-scissor-lift/). Ideally a two poster would be better but its a domestic garage and it just wouldn't fit/work. So i would love one of these just wondering because the platform lengths are 1490mm will the mini actually fit on it.

Any advice would be great ! picture of your mini on one be even better :proud:

Thanks

Paul

the thing about these is they are designed to lift on a modern cars sills which tend to have a vertical seam on the bottom. minis dont have this so you may have fun finding places to to put blocks to lift on suitable points.

That would maybe explain why ive searched everywhere to try and find info around this anywhere haha. So these scissor lift pretty much useless then?

I looked at these and decided they were borderline on being too long to go between the wheels and were going to stick out either side of the car by quite an amount.

I went for one of these:
https://www.ebay.co....44AAOSw7OVajSyq

However he used to do a 900mm wide ‘narrow’ one which Is the one I’ve got. I removed the arms completely, put 2” think foam on the platforms and lift the Mini directly on the floor pans.

See thats what im worried about is it not fitting between the wheels long ways if that makes sense.

i looked at those types of lifts but cant imagine you have a lot of room to get the likes of the exhaust in middle of the car etc. How are those types of lifts?

The exhaust it probably the one bit that is difficult, but not impossible.
Depending on where you put the car on the lift, the gear change accessible.

My Brother has one of these

http://redmount.ie/i...sor-lift-flush#

When you remove the extentions the mini sits on it prefect. We place the rubber blocks at the bottom of the healboard and front inner wing. Full access to to all wheels ,engine and exhaust and full walk under height. When not in use it is flush in the ground.

I've had one of the eBay ones for a good few years now, it sits in a 6" pit in the centre of the garage because at 500Kg even with wheels it's almost impossible to move easily.  Great tool not just for the mini but any other car too, makes servicing, brake work of even a clutch change much easier.

I heard lots of comments about access and to be honest it's normally from people who have never seen one in action.  You can easily position the car in a way that allows you get get to what you want.

I've kept the arms, fronts go just under the 'tails' on the front subby and the backs on the rear subby.  Even with 1" spacers the inside of the rear wheels can catch on the frame of the lift, but that's once again if you do not position the car correctly.

If you buy one get hold of an old wardrobe door mirror (the longer the better) - stick it on the wall in front of the lift, it allows you to position the car much easier on the lift.

I agree a two post is better, but you need the height and at least 8" thick concrete under the towers and where the stabiliser arms run(each side at the bottom of the towers), fine if you are building your workshop from scratch but a pain if the floor is already in place.

Stick 'domcr250 scissor lift' into Google and hit the image button, you will see mine on my lift before I stuck it in the pit.

Hi,

The platform on the eBay one is shorter than the redmount, so I don't think you'll have a problem there.

The Redmount has a 1900mm lift height so you can stroll under there if your garage is high enough!

Cheers  :proud:

Yea i just noticed the one i linked too is a few cm shorter then that red mount one.

The more I look at these the more im being swayed as I was always under the impression that access to the middle parts of the car was terrible. plus these tend to be a good few hundred cheaper

Hi,

I'd be going for the eBay one for a normal garage, even getting the mini on axle stands and drive up ramps has got it high enough up to fit brake and fuel pipes, the exhaust and battery cable if you lie on your back.

My next workshop needs scaffolding to get to the roof so I'll pay the extra for the full lift height.

Cheers  :proud:
