That's an over sill and although the welding looks ok, why has it been drowned in underseal then not painted?

You cannot paint over underseal

Oversills don't come with under seal on them though!

They have obviously applied a **** load of the stuff after fitting. Doesnt look like fresh underseal mind!

Hi guys. It's update time.

The garage were under the impression that the sills they fitted were correct. Despite the amount of minis that go through their place, they perhaps aren't as specialist in minis as I thought.

I have since convinced them otherwise (with assistance from phone calls from minispares and heritage) and will tbe having the oversills removed and correct sills fitted within a few weeks.

Atleast I get to enjoy this nice weather until it goes back. As with everything in life I'll learn from this and get them to write me a breakdown of what they will do and what rust preventative measures will be taken.

I'll also ask them to not douse the repairs with underseal, or atleast not before I can have a look at them and ensure its sufficiently protected.

Obviously I'll not be charged to put this right and I'll get written confirmation of this at the time of dropping the car off.

Thanks for the kind words and interest. I'll keep you all updated.

Glad you are getting it sorted in the end! At least they are not just fobbing you off. Keep us informed on the final outcome

Good result.

Ask for stonechip when it's complete.

A nice even coat is more than enough. I thought the days of slopping on underseal with a big brush were long gone

Lots of people name and shame on here. Can you name and praise - when the work has been completed to a good standard at no extra cost?

i donk know how a garage can get away with slapping over sills on in this day and age- imagine how many other minis they have done...

good outcome though, they should be willing to re-do it right and shows some good-will.

It's like I suggested earlier in this thread, It's surprising how many places/people either don't know the difference between them, the pitfalls of coversills or believe that they are better/stronger.

Perhaps if they normally fit coversills to Mini's, they may now not after being brought up on it so that would be a good result for all involved in the future.

The fact that they have agreed to sort this out speaks volumes in my mind.

Totally agree, everyone makes mistakes, always give someone a chance to make them right in any situation.
