Hi, I’m just reinstalling the alternator on my MPi after changing the radiator. I managed to get the belt off okay when I removed the alternator but just can’t get it back on! The square adjuster will turn some but I don’t want to force it, the real issue is that when I try to undo the Belt Tensioning Pulley the pulley itself just turns rather than the nut in the middle. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! TIA.

I think the first thing you need to do is clean up the threaded rod on the adjuster and get that moving nicely.

I believe you need to turn it clockwise to de-tension on the MPI.

I would run the adjuster back and forth once clean until it works smoothly hopefully without breaking it.

You could do it off the car by removing it from the engine which would make things easier but you would need to remove the alternator again to do it.

Hi,

Yes they're a struggle. Get a socket inside the adjuster pulley and remove the nut and pulley.n

Then once you can see what your doing clean and lubricate the screw thread and where the square fits in the bracket.

Back it right off and refit the pulley loosely, then the alternator then the belt.

That's how I think I did it....

Cheers  :proud:

Need to type faster!

Thanks for this but I can’t do anything with the pulley as when I get a socket on it it just turns the pulley?? It spins freely.

Hi,

Lever the pulley away from the bracket whilst unscrewing with the socket?

Cheers  :proud:
