So the next one is underway!

It's a 79/80 Pick-up and looks reasonably good at first glance but is still going to require a lot of work to bring it back up to scratch.

It has had a fair amount of work done in the past like most including a new front end but overall is very solid.

I'm going to be replacing the front end including the scuttle and A panels (inner and outer) Ill replace the entire cab floor including sills, cross member and heel board and then there are just many small repairs and some slightly larger ones.

Once done, it will be re-painted in this colour again.

Ill be sending it off for blasting so I want to remove the front end to make it easier for the guy to do a through job.

First to come off are the wings and front panel

And then I can start removing the remains of the wing tops, scuttle and A panels. Not wonderfully easy as they have been replaced before so lots of plug welds to discover and grind out.

I had planned to repair the inner wings but I'm not sure what they are going to be like post blasting so ill have to wait and see.

To remove the A panels, I need to locate and grind out the plug welds.

That's as far as I have got so far but stay tuned for further updates on this one.

Cheers

Ben

What's the plan for this one? Will it be going back to stock or will it keep the arches and stuff?

The finer details haven't been discussed fully yet.

Ill get the main bulk done and then see what the customer wants to do.

Oh my word - that’s a bit scary, but is good to see it’s restore finally starting after a decade on SORN

Back to stock(ish) - it’ll have its commercial grille reinstated, but removable to make my life easier (..but not Bens, as he’s got to fabricate it!), arches and 12” rims are going in favour of 10” steels. MG Metro lump that came out of it will have a freshen up and go back in.

Sounds like yet another awesome build by Ben.

Spec sounds spot on, very tasteful. Look forward to further updates KTS!

Take a shock mount off. I’m sure that’ll be decision made about the inner wings

could be, but I don't think it's 'earthy' enough. I've asked Ben to colour match it, so hopefully he'll be able to provide a definitive answer

Yep - another opportunity for Ben to show how it's done, and maybe provide some guidance and a bit motivation for some of the other pickup projects out there

I don't think that's really necessary - I suspect they'll fall off at the first gentle waft of the blasters gun..

Ha ha, the area behind the shock mounts are the best part of the inner wings!

Continuing on from yesterday, I got the o/s outer a panel off

rXYb3l0.jpg

And then the inner

Xp0aPoE.jpg

vHBD3LH.jpg

sOfb0VD.jpg

All went fairly smoothly but has made light of some repairs that will be necessary to the A post.

I think it's fairly obvious now that the best course of action is going to be replacing the inner wings entirely especially as once the repair times are deducted and replaced with replacement times, the difference in price is nominal but I am yet to discuss this with the owner.

I repeated the same the other side

J7avaOj.jpg

IZ6ju3E.jpg

ZgWW40A.jpg

And that is the front end off

vus7xdc.jpg

Next, the front subframe came out

tSrzXzu.jpg

And the steering rack and column

gqd7Ups.jpg

brx8K32.jpg

Then onto the rear sub frame

vIKyQTK.jpg

Tailboard

el3Qi1w.jpg

And we are about there

6jVhfx3.jpg

The subframes are going to be blasted too so they were stripped

tvQgXqQ.jpg

No after pic but it's in the background on this pic

vvTJatf.jpg

And then we carried it back into it's spot

4s3PjuX.jpg

All ready to go of to Martin at MJG so the only updates now will be anything I receive from him.

Mick is going to collect the shell and parts on Friday morning and take it over there. There is a 2-3 week turnaround so ill get some panels sorted out in the meantime.

Cheers

Ben

Cheers Ben - let's see what the blaster uncovers. I'm sure it'll be fine
