subframes have come up really well, and the grille looks good - might have to see if i can find some grey edging instead of the black though

After some deliberation, I decided to paint the doors in 2 stages.

There really was no way of hanging the doors in such a way where I could paint the outer skin and all inside the open frame of the doors at the same time.

I ended up prepping the doors, sealing up the skin folds and then painting the insides of the doors first. It meant I could get the paint in everywhere without the frames of the panel stands interfering.

All ill need to do now is mask the inner frames up and paint the outer skins next time.

Whilst it was in there, I also painted a few bits and pieces

Forgot to mention or take photos but I replaced the studs in the bonnet hinges too as they were very worn meaning that the nuts wouldn't fully grip once tightened.

All good now :-)

Cheers

Ben

Now that the bonnet lock and hinges are painted, I have fitted the bonnet.

Must be amazing to own a mini done by Ben, with doors that fit, shut lines that aren't awful, everything lining up and immaculate paint. I can but dream...

Little bit more done.

Steering rack in with new gators and track rod ends

Swiftly followed by the sub frame with solid mounts

Before I can fit the doors, I need to do something with the hinges.

I have already re-pinned and bushed them but the surface is very deeply pitted.

Thats one of the better ones. Obviously they are solid so this is purely cosmetic.

I decided to sand back as far as I could which resulted in this

I shall apply 3 coats of highbuild, flat that back and then repeat and that will fill the pitting. Id rather use paint than filler here.

Cheers

Ben

cheers Ben - the hinges had a fair amount of filler in/on them when i took them off.  can't tell you how long it took to extract the remnants of the studs that sheared off (of 16 screws & studs, 6 sheared and i think one i just couldn't get out)

it's going to be a bit strange needing to wear gloves to keep the car rather than my hands clean when i start work on it  O_O

I can imagine they did have lots of filler.

Problem is, you need to be careful that you dont end up with too much material on them, especially at the hinge points to avoid damage when opening the doors.

I think they will come up nicely with some work.

cheers
