Evening, I have just put my 998 back in my mini. It had been stood a while so I took the head off etc. The head was skimmed. Now it's all back together I have an oil leak between the head and block. The head nuts are torqued to 50 ftlb. I used a copper gasket. Is it a major problem???

looking at the condition of the threads i dont think you have actually torqued the head correctly.

and yes it is a problem if it is actually leaking. and not oil collecting there after leaking from the rocker cover gasket.

One nut at a time - Back off nut, clean threads, lube and re-torque.

Run engine through a complete heat cycle and allow to go cold. Individually back off each nut and retorque.

It hasn't been run long yet, about 30 seconds. I can just about see that the oil has run from the rocker cover gasket down the block, must of been last night when I filled it. I will clean it off and see if it comes back. Maybe I thought it was bubbling but could of been the vibrations. Should of looked closer earlier but feeling really rough so of to bed and try again tomorrow.

I doubt it would be Oil leaking there as there's no Oil around that part of the head / block.

Do as Graeme suggested ^. Run it with water and not coolant for a few heat cycles, then check it again. If all is OK, then swap over to coolant.

I doubt if there was a leak, it would leak that quickly. Just make sure its not running down from the rocker cover.
