Hi guys, so after rebuilding the mechanism in my faulty indicator stalk a million times to try and save money, it has inevitably become completely knackered. I'd like the buy a replacement, but I have no idea which one I need.

My car is a 1988 city E, which according to Minispares (I think), should have the indicators on the left. This is not the case though, as my car has the indicators, horn, and main/dip beam switch on the right stalk, with just the wipers/washers on the left. I would quite like to keep this configuration as I have grown used to it, so am I right in thinking this is the part I need, even though my car is an 88 and this is only for cars up until 84? - http://www.minispare...|Back to search

Any advice would be much appreciated,

Cheers

Chris

Just realized I put this in the wrong section, sorry about that.  :shy:  If it could be moved then that would be great

Yes that's the correct part if you wish to keep the same arrangement.  I fitted one to a '91 Cooper I used to have as I have always prefered the indicators on the right hand side.

I think most British cars up until about the mid seventies had this arrangement.  Left hand drive cars always seem to have the indicators on the left.  Ford for instance changed to the left for right hand drive cars around the time of the mk4 Cortina.  I wonder if it was to keep costs down as they could then make one type to fit left and right hand drive cars.

People differ in their preference but I always felt it made more sense to be able to operate the indicators (and dip switch/horn) with the hand you weren't changing gear with.

Thanks for the help mate, much appreciated! Interestingly, despite my daily driver (Fiat Punto) having the indicators on the left, I still prefer them on the right in the Mini!
