After filling up today I started smelling a lot of gas... After a 1hr drive opened the boot and it kinda came from there (maybe under the tank)?

Normal for minis to smell of petrol?
This was literally my first outing and just curious if I got a leak...

the tank has a breather pipe from the top a small pipe. Should go down a hole in the floor to under the car, if this hose is damaged then petrol fumes can leak in or if you go round a corner with a full tank, petrol can leak

There is a vent pipe attached to the top of the tank which should vent to below boot floor level. If this has become detached, or is venting inside the boot it will cause a build-up of petrol fumes inside the boot.

Check this immediately, as with the battery in the boot it is an explosion risk!

Oh ok.... Is this pipe on the frontward facing side or left/right when standing behind the car? My tanks on the left of the car. Trying to get as much info as possible cus the car is parked quite a ways away....

Also check the rubber pipe from the tank to hard line, mine stank of fuel so moved the tank and there was multiple splits in pipe which was causing a small fuel leak into the boot!

Breather outlet from the tank is right at the top, on the joint flange, and points to the right. The hose can come off, be old and cracked or can have moved so it no longer goes through the floor.

The rubber feed hose is also worth checking as said above.

So was able to check. The piping for the breather is infact broken halfway through and is hanging loosely in the boot.
As I am nowhere near a shop selling pipes, can I block this off? Will it cause any dangers? Kinda worried by trunk will just explode....

If you block it then it will create a vacuum in the tank as the fuel is used, up to the point where it starves the engine and it won’t run.
