I'm considering getting racing door roundels to make the car look a little more sporty once the new engine goes in, but should I use round or square ones and if square, white or yellow?

Depends on whether you want to look like a 'boy racer'  ;D .I think your car looks great as it is. Nice 'period' look with an excellent paint finish.

Why spoil it by making it look like a 'maybe racing/rally car'?

However, it is your car to do with as you wish and to enjoy. The only thing I would do were it mine is to run chrome trim down each side on the lower flange and carry this over the wheel arch extensions. Now that always looks super.

Tend to agree with cooperman, your cars crying out for the chrome wheel arch trims to finish it off.

White door squares would suit the "Monte" look that your Mini has already!

I've had the trims sat in the garage for over two years - still summoning the nerve to fit it!

As said above I think squares are better for the rally look.  Circles go better for the circuit racer look.  Sticky fingers do them in OEW to match the roof, bright white would be too stark.

Personally I think the OP's car looks absolutely great as it is, with the possible addition of the chrome side trims along the lower seams and over the wheel arch extensions. Bonnet stripes might look good. If it is available, chrome door frame cappings would make it very '1960's Cooper-ish' and look great, although back then it was quite usual to remove those strips to save a bit of weight. The bumper over-riders were also normally removed, again to save weight.

To try to turn it into a 'boy racer' make-believe rally car would possibly spoil its real '1960's retro look' which it certainly has at present. But then, it's not my car. My 1964 'S' has painted-on white squares on the doors, but it is a 'real' international spec rally car which had done a lot of rallying and I painted the squares on because the plastic Fablon sheet would never go down flat without air-bubbles and it looked 'naff'.

Whatever you do, it looks like you have a very nice Mini.

If its muck, then nothing to worry over

But if that's rot starting under the arch, that would be where i'd start  ;D

Other than that, great looking car.Wouldn't change a thing.

Drop in in a bucket of hot water prior to fitting - softens it up and reduces the risk of kinking

Better than using hot water is using a hair dryer, or a heat gun on a low setting.

I know what you mean about the boy racer look and I would have agreed with you wholeheartedly before I saw the Café Racer Mini video posted on TMF recently.  Now I'm thinking that having never been a boy racer, now that I approach my 60's perhaps it's time! I don't think anyone would think that car was an actual racing car - it's fairly obvious it's tongue in cheek but it gives it a distinctive look also captured by the current crop of café racer motorcycles being produced by mainstream and custom manufacturers. As the roundels are easily removable I may try the look and put some comparison pics up for judgement.
