I have my 998cc up and running. Excellent oil pressure and running well. I just took the oil fill cap off and had a look inside the rocker cover, don't ask why I just did, and was wondering how much oil should be around the rockers. Should it be soaking with oil or just a film???

There's normally a reasonable amount of oil there.  If it seems excessive the rocker shaft could be worn but they don't cost much.  Sorry not much help - someone else'll provide a better answer soon...

not loads, a film and splashing about is normal.

the oil feed for the rockers comes via the cam bearing nearest the rad, nd the cam and bearing are grooved in a way that gives a squirt of oil each rotation. it is possible to put the cam bearing in wrong so that the rockers are fed all the time and apparently this can fill the rockerbox with oil whoch causes an issue with oil getting down the guides.

the rocker post do need to be put in the correct place as one caries the oil to the shaft. which is why there is the taper nosed grub screw that locates the shaft in the correct place and has the lock plate to hold it in place.

I very much doubt that the drain holes between the cam followers could not cope with the relatively low pressure oil that flows through the narrow oil galleries to the rocker shaft.

Well Its not somthuiig I have experienced personally as I always fit my cam bearings correctly... But Ive seen enough reports of it over the years to belive it.
