Your lucky day Retroman.

While researching for another project, I came across this

WLGFBR0.jpg

Confirming your guess ;D

Cheers Spider what a brilliant find

I have never seen a trace of red paint on any....

Just coming to the end of a part rebuild on a mint S restoration so it's out with the red paint

That will really stand out under the bonnet

No doubt some of the anoraks will say ts wrong

,,,,, the grade of steel used for the cranks in BMC's 948 diesel engines that were fitted to the Morris Minor Vans, used by the GPO.

Cheers for that. I may have that somewhere,,,,,,, I didn't know those engines were fitted to any road vehicle, but there you go !  The only application I was aware of for them was in a Mini Tractor

Oh yes, they were in the vans before they showed up in the tractor;  and they found their way into Canal Barges.

Never heard of one in an aeroplane, but I have seen the engine from a Reliant Robin in one, when a pilot dropped in at the aero club !

They did a bigger version too, more of a B series size not sure on cc's,

We have a 3 ton Manitou 360 digger with one in...came with the lifting eyes on the rocker cover, it runs really well, not done many hours.

It's serial number 101 built early 1980's so a very early 'Mini' digger,

No such thing as a round corner on it and the glass is all put in with rubbers / fillets like a Mini.

The larger 1500cc engine, some of which found their way into Taxis, is the '4/25'.  This smaller 948cc is the '9/16' engine.

+1, a great find and post by Moke Spider.

I await with anticipation all the classic show 'S' engines appearing soon with their cylinder head bolt head painted red... as you say there will doubtless be a debate about how original this is and of course what shade of red would have been used.

Cheers guys :proud:

I've not seen one that's been painted Red not even in the original sales brochures nor when cleaning them, any evidence that they were painted as such.

It may have been that they were painted Red from the supplier and the fitter subsequently cleaned it off,,,,,,,

I wonder too, it it was just the 300 that was infilled or if the entire head was Red?

Carbon, yes, let's see what turns up at the shows,,,,
