Currently in the middle of a Mini project and at the moment i'm fabricating my own dash. I'm fitting a Smiths PROLED gauge to use instead of multiple gauges but in doing that i'll be losing the small indicator dash lights and oil pressure light, high beam light, etc.....my question is, is it a legal requirement to have the warning lights on a dash or can I do without?

Cheers, Ben.

They are an MOT requirement

The high beam and indicator tell-tale are an MOT requirement.  The alternator won't start charging without the ignition tell-tale and the oil pressure tell-tale is a good idea to have.

Not necessarily needed. No indicator light needed if audible tell tale present. So if your clicking relay is easily heard there should be not issue removing the dash tell tale. Also main beam tell tale only needed from '86 onwards. So if your mini is older, again dash light can be deleted.

Good point about the indicator tell-tale and I stand corrected about the main beam requirement - I had no idea it was '86 onwards - thought it was a lot earlier - should have checked my facts.  I think a main beam tell-tale is a wise thing to have though.

Fog light needs a tell tale too if you are bringing everything into one custom made unit.

Ive been thinking of using the Proled gauge but would need a big lamp for oil pressure and a charging indicator. You can get small neat lamps.

Yeah, im going to get the proled from digitalspeedos and they do a few small warning light clusters which display the lights so just going to go with that i think! I won't be moving the fog light so all is good there ?
