Hi All

Thanks for adding me.

I'm trying to figure out what my options are for resurrecting my almost abandoned project.

I had a 998 Mayfair back in the 90's.  I didn't treat it well and the 998 engine gave up, so it now has a 1300MG Metro engine.

However, the body work was poor and so about 20 years ago I bought a second hand shell to do up and transplant in the mechanical components from my 998 / 1300.  I do not know the history of the shell - it may have been scrapped, but it looked pretty good to me at the time.  The plan was to finish it, get it tested and register it on a Q plate.  Then life got in the way, the project stalled and the regulations changed.  I'm not optimistic about an old spec Mini passing an IVA now, but maybe I'm wrong.

Can anyone offer any suggestions for ways to revive the project?

I've always fancied a Moke and I've considered using the mechanical components in an AMC kit, but I don't think they're still in business are they?

Any suggestions gratefully received...

James

It'd be harder to get a Moke look-a-like through IVA than a rebuilt Mini. Pretty sure there's nothing required that a production line Mini didn't also need at the time the test came in.

Since you already own it, why not use the good shell to repair the old one? I'm sure you could get some very large donor sections that would need hardly any welding  :P

If only...unfortunately I needed the space and so the old shell went to the great scrapyard in the sky about 15 years ago.

The current position is an almost finished car cobbled together from my old 998 and an early 90s shell.  It needs an interior, a door and a variety of minor finishing off jobs.  And I haven't started it for years, but I'm sure that I should be able to get it going again without too much trouble.  It's the registration and IVA process that I think is going to stuff me now...

Hi Dean

Unfortunately, I don't have all the old parts.  I binned the old shell many years ago, thinking it would be easy to test and register a rebuilt car.
