today, i tried to drive my car - the "tapping" noise ive been hearing for a while was ten times worse and my rockers sounded like a bag of marbles.

Yesterday i had the rockers off to inspect them, no issues there, bit of valve stem flattening but nothing enormously wrong - so rockers went back on and it chucked it down and in i went.

Ive had advice from the forums best and brightest.....i think i know whats wrong - so whats the new clacking and rattling with the rockers.

So back to today - i drove the little ones to the chippy in a rainstorm and im thinking oh my god the engines exploded/ing/about to explode.

Sat at the table wondering what else i could do before the engine comes out and everything goes wrong, and then it hit me............fitted the rockers back on...check......torqued the head bolts.....check.......re-set the valve clearances........er.......reset the valve clearances.............(head on table moment)

Facial expressions as follows.

:mmkay:  :ermm:  O_O  :withstupid:  :xxx:  :xxx:  :xxx:  :xxx:  :mrcool:<---- this last one is me playing it cool and quietly walking back out to the car to quietly set them.

and low and behold, its running fine again.

why have i shamed myself publicly in-front of miniforums  elite mini demographic?

because i damn well deserve it.

We've all been there, easy mistake. The good thing is it's not noisy once you reset the clearances

In those immortal words "poop happens". The fact you have acknowledged your mistake publicly shows bravery.

Yup you will feel stupid but no harm dome and a salutary lesson to all.

Still does not account why you have 1 mm less lift on lobe no.1, that cam needs changing. The noise will return.

It happens to the best of us. I was adjusting my hilos and had the wheels on and off countless times. Finally got bored and left it alone. Next morning on the way to work I had a moment of horror when I glimpsed down and spotted 3 wheel nuts on the passenger floor. Thankfully I hadn’t picked up much speed due to the wobble....
