Afternoon all, wondering if someone could help have a 998 mini which I bought back in Feb, I've tried adjusting the carb, no matter what I do it keeps coking up the plugs I've lost count how many times I've had to change them have spare set which I keep rotating every other day,

It's OK on long journeys did London to Brighton and was booting it it was fine

I've had someone who used to work on minis give the carb a little tune he said it's fine it seemed to rev and go much better to be honest, on a long journey it was fine but around town it just soots up,

It's got a stage 3 head and the stage one kit I think? Rc40 exhaust, K&n filter with drilled airbox different needle minispares inlet manifold,

Want to drive it about but bit annoying that it keeps breaking down!

The vacuum advance pipe where it goes into the Dizzy the rubber is a little broken up,

The points etc look ok,

Basically the car was sitting in a garage since 2003,

Check that the choke cable isn't too tight. That's a problem I had for a while meaning that even with the choke pushed in it was still on slightly. There should be a small bit of slack in the cable, same with the throttle too.

as above - check choke is returning fully

it's easy to adjust it so it is too tight / slightly on

Is it a HIF carb (float under the carb) ? make sure you are turning the screw out to weaken (opposite to what you would think)

what needle has it got , is it correctly seated ? AAA is a good needle to start with

vac advance pipe is dirt cheap - https://www.ebay.co....5.c100005.m1851

Hmm yeah Il check that think I might have fitted the choke fairly tight, nice one for that vac pipe just ordered

There was someone who mentioned that there was a mini specialist in London with a rolling road as well? Can't remember who it was though
