cast iron can be welded
just need cast iron (type) rods for the arc welder
no need to change head fixed with a proper weld

In this particular case where the two surfaces are a perfect match, welding is much less desirable than brazing.
A filler like Sil-Fos 6 is so fluid that it will capillarate to the bottom of the joint which weld won't, and at a far lower temperature.

Right so I’ve just about buttoned up the radiator flush I’ve been doing. Found loads of issues and fixed them all as I’ve gone but as I’ve tightened the thermostat housing bolts up the one was quiet tight, bolts not in best condition and it’s broke a bit off the head?
I guess as the bolts screwed in it’s compressed all the old crap down until it broke it off! On the list of issues that could go wrong this was something I’d never expected!
My question is will it be okay? The thermostat housing is tight so I’m guessing it won’t leak but don’t want a hole in the side of my engine?
Any suggestions ?

Blind threaded holes must be inspected and ensured that they are clean and dry before something is screwed into them.
If there is any doubt, a fine groove should be filed down the thread so that any compressed liquid can escape as it is screwed in.
