Do i need to change the tappets even if it was charged when the engine was rebuilt? i only have driven a few miles after the engine was fitted.

Short answer is yes.

They 'bed in' to each other and do so fairly quickly, around 20 miles. Running 'used' tappets on a different cam will cause them both the wear out fairly quickly.

No problem.

You can also look up what the Cam suppliers say about Tappets too, eg  https://www.google.c...6D_FGGI47Q9sLNn

You could always change down a gear or two and save yourself the hassle?

Normally with such a cam, you'd run a 'shorter' final drive ratio, thus keeping the engine at higher revs and in the power band.

If it the AEG510 that's supposed to be a cracking cam for the 1300. I know Cooperman on here rates them highly for daily drivers. They're also the factory cam that came in the Innocenti Cooper 1300 Exports. Essentially it's the Cooper S cam that was later developed into the Metro cam, which was then used as a basis for the famous Kent 266 which is pretty the go-to cam for a Fast Road engine.

I'm in the Netherlands but I think Cooperman is in Cambridgeshire. You could shoot him a pm via the forum and ask him how he set his up back in the day. I am still building my car up and haven't had my engine running so I can't give you any on hand experience tips I'm afraid.
