There's a FAQ on this. It's a really nice guide on how to clean and tidy up the engine bay with the engine still inside.

If you really want to go all out with cleaning your engine bay then I was watching a detailing video and dry ice was meant to be the bees knees. Not sure how many valeting places use them though.

Otherwise soap solution and elbow grease usually does the trick.

Have a look at this:

Degreaser and warm water. Get loads of brushes of differing size, stick the radio on and be prepared to lose the will to live after an hour.

Once/if complete, then rince, let it dry naturally and use something like aerospace 303 as a protection.

One of the best products I've found for this kind of thing is Autosol Caravan and Motorhome cleaner, works great on wheels too.

Bit unconventional but oven cleaner really works well with less scrubbing

It'll also promote accelerated corrosion on all untreated surfaces.

Ah OK. I would guess a lot of our products would be unavailable over there unless they come from US, etc.

For large cleaning jobs I use a product called Jizer which washes off (I bought a 5L can!). I've also used Gunk, but for smaller jobs, and keeping a clean engine clean, I have a spray bottle of Meguairs Engine Cleaner.

Yes, just be careful with Oven cleaner, don't leave it on too long.
