Hey everyone, I'm Ernie and this is my 1987 Austin MINI Mayfair. Currently being restored, as you can see in this picture, but steady process.

This is my first ever car which I bought back in September of 2017 as a non-runner. I plan on driving this thing a few times a week to my new college and it's almost there! The car has around 22,000 miles, almost exactly, of genuine miles.

0farKzl.jpgCurrently she's off the road, no MOT, not taxed as i'm 16 and planning on driving it early next year (when I'm 17). But it's been driven, only around half a mile to see if it will grab gears and it does!

I'm posting here so I can get some advice on a few things I've yet to figure out about this car, and of course i'm looking for new parts to customize it some more. Thanks!

Welcome to TMF.

Be careful with insurance if you're modifying it

Again welcome to TMF and as per carlos ;

You should notify your insurance of any mods, otherwise if you have a smack your insurance may not pay out.

They will wriggle off the fork....should all be stabbed by one...[my opinion]

Looks like a smart motor you are lucky to get one at your age and such low milage too.

Don't be scared of asking anything on here.

Not sure how far your knowledge goes but the ride height looks high to me, has the suspension been played with ?

The ride height looks off because of our driveway being poorly built, haha. As you can see the Morris behind it is also at an angle but the suspension has not been played with to my knowledge. Once it's on the road it's flat and has a nice ride.

And I only plan on doing a few basic cosmetic mods like fog lamps and roof rack. Insurance quotes i've been given are around £250/year with it being stock, which is were I like it to be.

Currently it just has the wear of a car that hasn't been driven in 11-12 years so it may take some time to get it MOT ready.

Thanks for the reply's and advice!
