Need to split a couple of engines as well as a drum to disc brake conversion. For the engine I think I'll need a flywheel puller - any particular type / supplier?

 

This one? or this one?

 

I will also be doing a drum to disc conversion using the fund made from breaking these Metros so what about a ball joint splitter?

 

Any recommendations would be great.

scissor type ball joint splitter is better then the fork type. I bought a fork type one being a cheap skate and it was useless took far longer to split joints then using the scissor type

I think I've got one of the laser ones, come from halfords. I'll have a look later for it, if you're interested in it, I ended up buying one of the guessworks one.

Do you still have the metros? Where are you Selling All non engine metro parts?

Fork balljoint splitters get a bad rep as often they're the wrong size and badly made - I've got a really old williams superslim one - never fails and doesn't ever rip rubbers either, unless they're truly rotten in the first place - (nothing to do with me but one on fleabay at the moment https://www.ebay.co....97355181?chn=ps ) that said scissor types are good too ...

 

The laser flywheel puller is pretty good - but I along with probably plenty of others have busted the odd one....for a couple of uses it'd probably be ok so long as the flywheel is not a particular sod (they can be!)

 

Very few special tools needed for a mini thankfully - the only specific ones in my toolkit being cone and bendix gear compressors.

 

In general terms a selection of quality imperial spanners and sockets (in both 3/8 & 1/2") a bucket full of penetrating oil and a huge breaker bar will see you done easily........

 

A decent brake adjuster spanner worth every penny though.....

I did list on Metro Power For Sale on Facebook last year when I first came across them but never got around to doing anything. Apart from removing one of the engines and the carbs, I haven't started on the rest. I am compiling a list of anyone that wants anything. PM me and let me know what you are after.

What about an Engine Stand. Looks like a complete engine is 330lb so would this smaller Clarke one do. It is rated at 340KG.

Also need an A Series Adaptor. This one?

That's a beast, no wonder it's so much more expensive.

to be honest I need to split two engines to check them before I sell them on and I also need to check / change the clutch on mine. The two engines have been sat for a long time and will no doubt be stiff?

If you do end up using a fork splitter, I've found coating the fork ends in grease before using. It slides over the boots so they don't split and haven't had an issue with them.

I've got the scissor type one that I use if I'm taking a bit more time on cars but if you're replacing the ball joints you don't have to worry.
