Was just about to order a 30mm impact socket for the Flywheel, but then thought, what about the Flywheel Puller?

What size socket do the Laser or the larger Guessworks Flywheel Puller use?

I have also been advise to get a 900mm breaker bar for the job so would a 1/2 drive suffice or do I need 3/8 ?

Thanks

1/2" drive is fine I think your were meaning on typing 3/4"

flywheel bolt tools early 1.5" ,verto is 30 as you say. Guessworks puller uses a 1.5" tool. 1.5" is 38.1mm

ps one of these is very useful http://www.minispare...OOL13.aspx|Back to

PPS, if you don't have "one of these" as above, a second hand big-end or main bearing shell lodges in the flywheel teeth very nicely.

PPPS have destroyed a bearing shell doing that before. fly wheel tool is over 30 years old.

Asked earlier but it may have been missed. What about an engine stand? Especially if I am removing my engine to check / fit a new clutch and poss cylinder head and change the diff ratio?

There are a couple for sale locally - £30, or brand new on FleaBay for £40

If I get and Engine Stand i'll need an A-Series adaptor, only found this one also on FleaBay (nearly as much as the Engine Stand!)

Or how hard would it be to make one?

I have used a 1920's garden Tea trolly for 50 years to put my engines on, so I haven't looked into them, but I have often wondered how to hold the engine up with one hand while screwing the adapter plate on with the other.

Before you need the stand, you will need something to lift the engine out of the car.

I lift my engines out with block-and-tackle hung from a beam

There are a couple of Sealey 1T cranes for sale locally for around £100. I do have an ex school serving trolley that I could fabricate something to fit it? Problem is I use it to carry all my tools and work on :-)

As said above a 1/2 drive is fine. I would get a halfords professional one, great quality for the price and lifetime guarantee and you'll wonder why you never had one before.

If you're going to be building an engine then a stand is handy, if not then a crane is a lot more useful. I Made my own adaptor plate for my engine stand and was pretty simple to make.

It is not too difficult on the floor.

The block is the heavy bit.  Once you have got the cam and pistons in on a bench, turn it upside down on the floor to do the crank;   fit the gearbox, then turn it over to do timing chain, oil pump, flywheel and so on

Oh whoops, Breaker bar >_<. I think mine was about £20 or maybe less with a trade card.
