Hi

Can anyone tell me if the diff from an auto and a manual are interchangeable or are there differences?

Thanks. Jim

Yes but you do need to change the crown wheel and pinion gear. I've recently put one into my wifes 1275 manual as it was in better condition than the one that came out. The RH diff side cover is different which doesn;t matter as you already have one.

If it is complete diffs with Crown Wheel (and the Pinion) then sorry but no.

They run of different certre line distances (4.0" and 4.5"). Also, the splining on the Pinion is completely different.

The parts for the diff (minus the Crownwheel) are the same, but the early ones used the Steel Hardie Spicer outputs.

Ahh thanks Moke. so my next question of 'could I bolt an auto diff/diff housing onto a manual box' is a no? Just so I'm completely clear?

Edit ...Oops. Didn't see whistlers reply. I'm a bit confused now. :-/

also note, swapping diff housings between any box is not a good idea as they are matched to each other. which can result in some interesting bearing fitment issues.
