Hi All,

Recently I was browsing the Minispares website for engine parts, and noticed they have a very nicely priced camshaft, which is called the Evolution001.

It should have an RPM range of 1000-7000 with a normal idle.

Has anyone tried one of these before? Would it give a 998 a bit more oomph?

I had never used one until quite recently.

I built an engine for a 1969 Cooper 998 and we decided that it would be a good cam after looking at the cam data chart.

It has proved to be excellent for road use. It is smooth and the engine gives c.65 bhp with good mid-range torque.

Maybe it would work well for a good road 1275 engine. Next time I build one I might give it a try.

I've just fitted one to the wife's 1275 which has an MG Metro head and HIF44. Still running in but good low down torque and quiet tickover.

I will be rebuilding my 'warmed' 1966, 848cc, 3 syncro over winter, and intend stepping up to the E001 instead of the 948.

I'll tell you if it is a good combination, next summer.

I ran one in a 1330 with a decent gas flowed head. Bags of power and torque all across the rev range. It was a wonderful cam.

It looks like the winner!!

I plan to start 1275 rebuild and was considering that camshaft. I was suspicious since the price is really good...even thought excellent reviews at Minispares site may have been altered ......(sorry Minispares)....but now reading so much good about it I think I just decided on my next camshaft for the project. I am looking for 90-95HP and it looks like this camshaft is good for more than that....

yes it is a good cam. BHP is not the be all what you need is torque. that is what gives you the push in the back. BHP is just the limit to the top speed. which in a Mini is rather pointless.

Curve ball alert!

I went for the APT vp266-bk.  A real torquemeister, waaay better than the SW05-07 I took out :-)

It does seem good whichever engine it is fitted to. Price is excellent too.
