It is good to remember that in 1964 there was no general speed limit. You could drive as fast as you liked on normal roads - and we did!
I bought my first new car in 1964, a 998 Cooper, and after I did some work on the head and changed the cam it was a bit quicker. I guess it would do about 94 mph, legally that is.
One thing I recall is driving a 'works' Ford Futura Sprint rally car on test for Motoring News. It was staggering. That was the car which was fastest on the tests on the Monte Carlo, losing to Paddy in the Cooper 'S' on handicap.
Yes, 1964 was a good year. Well it was for me at any rate!

The last time I was in the I of M was in 1964 on the Manx Rally.
The video of my old friend Tony Pond doing the 100 mph lap is awesome.
