Hi Guys
I was planning on using a 64D electronic dizzy in my 12G1279 block which has the older sleeve and pinch clamp arrangement. My question is can I use the same clamp arrangement but with a A+ drive spigot and 64D?
Thanks!

Moke Spider has covered this somewhere an IIRC there was some machining that needed doing.

You can do it.

One way I have done similar is to fit a 'A' Drive Dog to the Distributor, then weld a bracket off the Distributor Collar (the bit that slips in to the block), for the A+ type clamp.

I don't seem to have a photo on imgur to load up,,,,, I think if you do a seach on the forum, you may find it from my old Photobucket account,,,

I did a search but haven't come up with anything yet. I was wondering if I can use a A+ style bracket and modify it so it fits on to the earlier collar? the 64MD fits into the earlier collar ok.

What do I need to do to a A+ drive spigot?

Thanks

There's a bit more info here too;-

You won't be able to fit an A+ Drive in to an A Block, hence why it's better to change the drive dog on the distributor.

Gotcha, thanks Moke Spider.

So I just need to get a old A series dizzy and swap the dogs, is there any reason why I can't utilize the 2 threaded holes in the collar and make my own securing bracket?

Thanks again

If you can fabricate a bracket off those holes, then why not. What I posted above is just one way of skinning the cat.

Yes, just find an old A type Distributor and swap the drive dog.

Hi Guys

So I got myself a Pre A+ distributor and took off the dog drive (little aluminium piece with 2 teeth on) and it fits in, I need to take about 0.4mm off it and take out the hole in the shaft as it is bigger on the Pre A+.

My question is, as the Steel shaft is shorter on the electronic dizzy so it no longer fits into the drive shaft that connects to the cam, does that matter? or is it strong enough without the steel shaft supporting it in the drive shaft?

Cheers

I can't say I bother swapping shafts, only the drive dog.

When fitting an A+ distributor to an A Engine, there's no issue with the shaft lengths.

When fitting an A Distributor to an A+ Block, I just grind a lick off the shaft to shorten it a little.

I can't help wondering why you'd want to do this, there are alternatives.

http://www.123igniti.../products.phtml or any of the distributorless wasted spark systems.

I am using the Lucas Electronic dizzy because it was £20 and perfectly up to the job and a 123 is £300. They are alternatives but expensive ones!  O_O

Fair do's, but will the advance curve of the 65 fit your engine? You might be better off converting the existing dizzy to electronic. Apart from the Britpart type conversion kits, Rover had a factory fit electronic version of the 59 (used mostly on Maestros). You could build up a pre A+ type 45 with the electonic guts from one.

I am planning on getting it curved to suit my engine when I have that sorted.

Power spark and accu spark kits are available for £30 - £40. That would be a much easier option.
