Has anyone with an MPi managed to relocate the front seats further back?

I made an attempt to fit a set of extension brackets but it's just not possible to go any further back than standard because the volume of the seat back fouls with the companion bin. I did think about moving both seats slightly towards the centre line of the car to give a little more clearance but the rear feet of the seats are already taking up the complete width of the available floor and any further in they'd sit on the tunnel. I'm now contemplating whether to have the seat frames modified to maybe have a recess at the point where it contacts the companion bin.

Has anyone managed an alternative solution?

Hi,

Yeah but you won't like it!

Cut the companion bin up and weld it back in further back...

Cheers  :proud:

That's pretty drastic but at least it's a solution!

Hi,

I couldn't really see any other way, as you say it's in the way and cutting lumps out of the seat will seriously reduce strength in the event of an accident.

Cheers  :proud:

Ha ha, lesser of two evils .... the companion bin anchoring the seat belt!

I'm tempted to create a dog-leg in the offending tube in the seat back to fit around the companion bin rather than resting against it, if it works it wouldn't be much trouble to have the seat cover adjusted to fit. It's hard to see any other way of creating the leg room I'd like, it's a JDM model and with the air-con extras below the front shelf the foot area is pretty cramped.

I fitted standard alloy seat extensions when we had a 1998 Sportspack Cooper, seat pushed right up against the companion bin all the time, the foam and leather cover distorted a bit but it gave valuable added leg room for me (6'1" tall). I fit them to every Mini Ive owned otherwise I get a pain in my left ankle due to the angle of the clutch pedal.
