I have a French 1995 Mini Seaway, the indicators started off working when I first brought the car. But had become inconsistent. They are not not working at all. Any advice? 

 

I have read about a flasher unit, is this in a 1995 Mini.

I’d suspect a bad connection somewhere. Primary suspect would be the fuse box. The spade connectors and the ends of the fuses can become dirty and corroded, causing problems like this.

Also faulty hazard light switches can cause this problem. As well as turning on the hazards they cut power to the indicators (so you can’t cause problems by having them both switched on at the same time.

Even if the hazards work, the indicator cut off function of the switch could be faulty.

Sometimes the problem can just be dirty connectors on the back of the hazard switch.

I had a fault with mine recently turned out to be a Relay. Don’t know the configuration of yours but if you look under the bonnet on the left hand side near the bulk head you probably have two relays. If you do the one nearest you may be for the indicators, it is on mine a 93 SPi, the one furthest away I think is the horn relay if you swap them over and your indicators work problem solved, new relay required, if not then flasher unit, fuses, hazard switch.

I had exactly the same problem and reseating the relay cured the problem.

Try removing and cleaning the terminals on the relay, failing that replace it

Later Minis have one electronic flasher that works  hazards as well as indicators. A relay is switched by the ignition circuit to connect the flasher to the indicator stalk. The fault could be at the relay, the hazard switch or the stalk.
