So I have been thinking about doing an BE mini since I got my 1970 mini K (as Cooper S tribute/replica) 4 years ago. I was tempted to do it after my genuine 1275 Cooper S engine went bang (leg out of bed = hole in block) on the track. But managed to pickup a 1275 GT engine so installed my SCCR gearbox and back on the track for a few more races.
So at the last race meeting for the season last year the old A series had another issue so I am in the process of removing it from the car.
Now I do have a 1380 that needs to be assembled but....the thought of a Bike Engined mini popped up again.
I ride a motorbike every day to/from work and I live in a rural area just north of Auckland as such I have an unsealed road. I recently got my first shaft drive motorbike as I was getting sick of chain maintenance. I also have the nick name of sandtrap from my fellow racers after 2 or 3 visits to the sand traps in the few seasons.
So with the above in mind the only thing that was putting me off running a bike engine was all the kits available use a chain drive
I did recall seeing a kit years ago that was using a transfer box. So I did some Google searches. Bingo it was the miniexvo kits...but unfortunately their website no longer worked and I could not find any contact info past or present.
I did however find a website/build diary from a guy in LA USA who had purchased a miniexvo kit many years ago. Great I thought he might have some contact details. So I sent Joe250 an email. Yes some on here will know of this guy and his project.
We emailed a few times exchanged details and I called him up on the phone.
As Joe had removed the R1 kit to install a BMW dohc conversion A series we agreed on terms and a sale of his miniexvo kit was complete.
It is currently in a container on a ship in the Pacific heading towards me in Auckland New Zealand.
I will post pictures of my project and progress once the engine/kit arrives.

Remember these from a magazine feature, iirc PPC in the UK? I wonder who did the original machining, I think the guy who designed it was a student who had it made to his drawings?

yeah...just could not help myself. Picked up another ozzy mini the other weekend....rusty as and had been in an accident then sat outside. Got it for the stock firewall so I can remove the weber box and go back to standard. If I ever run an A series again I will run twin SU not the weber so no firewall mods going forward.A secret no more
So while I wait for the engine to arrive body work will begins.
