Hello,

This is my first post so here goes......We have recently purchased a 1965 Morris Mini Minor with a standard 848cc engine and I want to replace the spark plugs. The existing plugs are NGK BP6ES but the car has been fitted with electronic ignition and from what I understand the usual 0.025 gap is not appropriate. I think the distributer is original but upgraded to an electronic system but I have no information on type or specification. I have looked online and suggestions for the spark plug gap seem to vary between 0.028 and 0.050. I would be grateful for any advice please and apologies for long note for what appears to be a simple question! Thanks. Derek

It will depend on the brand and type of electronic ignition, but to be honest, I've not worried too much about it and run around 0.028 - 0.30" with them.

I'd caution against going too big as it will allow the voltages in the HT circuit to be much higher than what the rest of the Ignition Circuit (Rotor Button, Cap etc) was ever designed for and can lead to other issues.

Welcome to TMF

I would run at 0.035" plug gap no more and BP5ES plugs
