I have a been a member of the forum for a while but haven't posted in years (had a child so that put pay to any mini project!!), but I am now back on the road of building my mpi!!

From the pics you can see it started as a bit of a wreck (as mpi's are!) so has been pretty much taken to metal, all welding done and then off to the paint shop for a unnique cappuccino colour (sounds aweful but looks amazing in the light).

It has mk1 rear light clusters and bonnet lip removed for mk1 look front. It will have mk1 carbon fibre doors fitted along with 10" alloys.

The engine has been stripped down and been completely transformed. Ian at Avonbar has built an amazing 1330cc block with Minispares 5 speed gearbox, specialist components supersports head, SW5 camshaft, and 1.5 roller rockers. It will have SC typhoon ecu once completed. I will add photos shortly of the new engine and upload some more pictures.

Thanks for reading,

Neil

My little boy has been employed to put in some new sound deadening, and have also been teaching him to strip out the engine bay.......

I'll be intrigued how you get mk1 doors to fit. Great project!

Hi Steve,

They will be Arcangels carbon fibre doors with sliding perspex (not to everyone's taste I know), but fitted with mk1 hinges. They will be adapted slightly at the bottom front corner to give it the curved effect that mk1 doors had, bot the straight front edge that mk3 onwards doors have. It will also need some adapting to the A-panels to have them curved at the bottom to match the curve at the bottom of the doors (a-la mk1). At least that's the plan! I have some skilled friends who I will need to employ to get that done well!!

I thought I had bought a Typhoon 2 ECU from SC. I wasted several hours trying to configure the ECU as such before realizing I had been sent a Delta 400. SC's website still describes the ECU as a Typhoon 2 whilst the one in the picture is a Delta 400. So my tip is read the label on the ECU not what SC sales blurb says. Might save you some time!

The D400 is the better Ecu anyway.

Whys your rad fan on backwards?

Good question and well spotted!!

The 'top' of it was slightly scuffed and tarnished....tried as much to tidy up as possible, but still looked a little scruffy, so fitted it upside down! Once all the rest of the stuff is fitted, you won't really be able to see it, so I've left it like that! (Unique I suppose!)

You'll be lucky to fit the tensioner with that where it is, plus the fan is a blow through and won't be effective where it is.

Ah, it still is the correct way round (so blows the correct way, but if it fouls the tensioner, may have to spin it back round!!)
