I spotted this while browsing and wondered if may be a solution to illuminating the bank of rocker switches without resorting some kind of dimming box of tricks.

I'm assuming you could wire this type of switch to illuminate when headlights are on and the tell tale only shows when the switch is pressed.

It wouldn't work for the brake check switch though

Don't know if they sell these switches for other functions.

This switch has an additional coloured tell tale on the top of the switch that only shows when the switch is on.

Perhaps this shows it better:

I wondered if it would be possible to have the switch illuminated all the time without using some kind of dimmer and reduce the fumbling about in the dark.

I'd never seen a switch like this before today

but that only come on when the lights are on dip and/or on main. as the Mini ones are switched illumination when you turn them on you just need to change the illumination feed from being from the lights switch to an ignition live feed. new switches not needed.

Hi Mike,

I have fitted similar ones to my Moke, and yes, they are illuminated types, quite bright to the point where I actually dimmed them (a 9 volt feed to the lamps is much easier to live with than the full 12 volts)

There's another type I've used, that is available in any combination that you'd need, illuminated and a wide variety of engraved symbols are available for them, but they are frightfully expensive - Carling Switch.

They're Lucas Delta switches. There's a full range, the Mini's light switch was illuminated but they tended burn out, hence being superseded by the non-illuminated version. If you want illuminated use relays with it and it'll be fine.

The bulb terminals are the small spades on the side. You can wire a feed off a switched terminal of the main switch as a tell-tale or link them to the side lght circuit to illuminate with the rest of the dash.

...or do both, with a handful of diodes and a resistor as Spider's already hinted at.

Ah that explains why I only remember the illuminated ones.

Hi Nicklouse

Yes the ignition feed is a better idea than using the sidelight/headlight feed.
